If being in-between is a destiny,
Then make the cracks an oasis.
若In-Between是宿命 ,
那就將夾縫站成綠洲。

Fang, Man
Ph.D. P.A. M.A. Psychology
Trained as a psychologist and psychotherapist in both China and Germany, Man Fang has developed integrative methodologies drawing from psychodynamic group therapy, Satir-based family therapy, body and movement therapy, and drama therapy.
Enriched by her experiences as researcher and policy consultant in the field of risk governance in Beijing over nine years, she applies these approaches in diverse contexts for personal growth, participatory dialogue, organizational learning, and global sustainability efforts. Her work bridges psychological and artistic practices to support communication, identity, and relational development across cultural and disciplinary boundaries. As a facilitator, she is dedicated to empowering interdisciplinary competence and fostering the integration of multicultural identities.
About Me
Life Journey In Between
Cross-cultural
Hanchuan Dialect(Chinese)
Wuhan Dialect(Chinese)
Mandarin
English
German
Each language is a part of my cultural identities and related life periods, which also carries my emotional and cognitive connections with friendship and kinship, family, social network, motherland, fatherland (Germany as my hostland) as well as my studies and professions. I grew up in a town called Hanchuan, one hour away from Wuhan. At the age of five, by using two dialects adapting to my family members, I cultivated my earliest sense of empathy.
The constant switching of languages is my own primal memory of living in an In-Between culture, which made me born as a Bridger.
Interdisciplinary
Engineering
Psychology
Psychoanalysis
Public Administration
The flow among disciplines constantly breaks down the limitations of my own language, mindset and worldviews, and always creates new space and possibilities for dialog between multi-stakeholders.
Engineering and early learning of programming languages fostered a logic mindset and an industrie awareness that allowed me to utilize technology in the explosive growth of information technology.
Psychology cultivates my humanity, allowing me to grow and explore inwardly, to establish my own internal order and norms, and to resist external temptation and emptiness.
My ten years of research in Risk Perception & Governance and practices in Policy-Making have enabled me to think and practice in a more systematic and complex dimension, and at the same time, to experience and observe the trials of the material world and power on human nature.
Identity Integration
Scholar
Psychotherapist
Policy Consultant
Freelancer as Author & Facilitator
The instinct of exploring the unknown runs through my life. My curiosity about the world and the unreserved love of my family supported me to become a scholar, and the courage inherited from my family's female legacy has led me to step out of the traditional Confucian career structure of “after acquiring achievements from study then to be an officer ”(学而优则仕). Instead, I have taken the path between psychologists/therapist and policy consultant to become an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural communication practitioner and theory builder.
My training as an academic has given me a third perspective and enabled me to depict my senses more accurately; my training as a counselor has guided me into the depths of self-exploration, to meet with my own subconscious, cultural subconscious, and to live with and reconcile with my own shadow.
I am a person who follows the flow of the river of life. Whether in individual counseling, group facilitation, or policy consultation, I have always with the belief of “human nature is good”. Twenty years of interdisciplinary practice has been extremely challenging, with frustrations, disappointments, and doubts. Through hardships, I have strengthened my trust in the quality of “goodness” in human nature, and simultaneously accumulated the wisdom to practice this belief, while encountering more and more fellow practitioners.
Hobby
Dancing
Painting
Skiing
Diving
Except the necessary words, I prefer to be silent and immerse into my body, listening to her impulses and express in movement. As a visual person, painting is my critical channel for sensing and expressing, which is my contemplative way of being. Like all the explorers, I love to reach the border or limit of my body. Skiing and diving are keeping broadening my understandings of my inner and physical strength, and reminding me of my limit.
